Write your book — free.
A five-part guide drawn from what we've watched authors do well — and badly — for two decades.
Finding your idea
Start with the question you can't stop turning over. The strongest books answer something the author had to figure out the hard way.
Who you're writing for
Name one real person. Write every chapter as if they're across the table. Books written for everyone land with no one.
Structure
Outline in three passes: a one-page promise, a chapter list, then a paragraph per chapter. Don't draft until the spine holds.
First draft
Write badly on purpose. Speed beats craft in draft one — your only job is to reach the last page so you have something to fix.
Editing
Cut 20% on the first pass. Read it aloud on the second. Hire a developmental editor on the third — see the referrals page.
Ready for the next step?
Once the draft is done, here's where most authors get stuck — and who we trust to help.
