Privacy Agreement
Effective September 1, 2026
To build your book we handle your voice, your face, and the material you have spent years accumulating. This page says exactly what we collect, who touches it, how long we keep it, and how you get it back or get it deleted.
AskTheAuthor is operated by Living Forever AI. This Agreement covers asktheauthor.ai, app.asktheauthor.ai, and your author page. It works alongside our Terms of Service.
The Services are currently offered to people in the United States. All data is stored and processed on infrastructure in the United States.
1. What we collect
Account information
Your first name, last name, email address, and login credentials. If you sign in with Google we receive your email and whatever name Google supplies. If you sign up with an email address and password, we send that address to ZeroBounce before the account is created, to check it can receive mail. Signing in with Google skips that step.
How you found us
When you arrive we record campaign parameters from the link you followed (UTM values), Facebook click and browser identifiers, whether the visit came from an ad, your sign-up method, your browser and device string, and the page that referred you. We use this to understand which of our own marketing is working.
Some of that may go to Meta. When an account is created we send Meta a signal that a signup happened, so we can tell which ads work. It carries your email address as an irreversible hash rather than in the clear, your Facebook click and browser identifiers, your IP address and browser string, and the page you signed up from. It is sent at most once, at account creation, and never afterwards. Some signups do not produce it at all. See Section 4.
Your author page
Your author name, the name readers see, your page address, your photograph, your roles, credentials, career highlights, bio, headline, featured quote, and quick facts. We also keep an append-only history of changes to these fields: what changed, from what to what, and when.
Your book material
The recordings you make while talking through your topic and chapters, the transcripts of those recordings, anything you type, and any file you upload, including notes, transcripts, posts, presentations, and partial manuscripts. Also the drafts we generate from them, your edits, your chosen cover, and the audiobook.
Voice recordings
The audio of you talking. It is transcribed so your words become the material for your book, and it is the source your voice clone is built from. If you would rather bring an ElevenLabs voice you already own, we use the voice identifier you give us instead. The recordings are sensitive personal information, and the voice clone built from them is a biometric identifier. See Section 2.
Your photograph
The photo on your author page. It is your likeness, and it is stored in a way that makes it reachable by direct link. See Section 6.
Operational records
Email delivery events from Postmark, our email suppression list, email verification codes, request rate limits, an audit log, and records of each attempt our generation system makes on your book.
Consent records
Every time you agree to something that matters, we write down that you agreed. We keep that record so that both of us can show later what you were shown and when. Each record contains:
- Who consented, identified by your account.
- Which category it covers: our terms and this Agreement, your voice, or your likeness.
- Which version of the wording you accepted.
- The date and time.
- The IP address the consent was submitted from.
These records are kept separately from the rest of your account and survive its deletion. See Section 8.
Payment information
Payments run through Stripe, Inc., a PCI DSS Level 1 certified processor. Stripe handles your card details directly. We never receive or store your full card number, security code, or bank details. We do receive your billing name, email, purchase status, and transaction history for account management and tax records. Stripe’s own policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
2. Your voice and your likeness
Building a voice clone means creating a voiceprint, a digital model of how you sound. That is a biometric identifier under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act (CUBI), and the Washington State Biometric Identifier Law, and this section carries the disclosures those statutes require.
Being precise about what is covered. The statutes above reach voiceprints and scans of face geometry. They do not reach ordinary recordings and photographs: Washington expressly excludes photographs, video, and audio recordings from its definition. So your raw talk recordings and your author photograph are not biometric identifiers. We still treat them as sensitive, and they get the protections described throughout this Agreement, but we are not going to call them something they are not.
What we collect and why
| What | How it is treated | Why we have it |
|---|---|---|
| Your voiceprint, the voice clone built from your recordings | Biometric identifier under BIPA, CUBI, and Washington law | Narrating your book and giving your twin its spoken voice |
| Your talk recordings, the raw audio of you speaking | Sensitive personal information, and the source the voiceprint is built from | Transcribed into the material your book is written from |
| Your photograph | Sensitive personal information. We do not derive face geometry from it | Your author page |
We do not use your voice or your likeness to identify you, to monitor you, or for anything other than building and running the things you asked us to build. We do not train AI models on them.
If we ever build a video twin from your likeness, that involves face geometry, which those same statutes do reach. We would ask for your consent to that separately and update this Agreement before collecting anything for it.
Which vendors receive it
| Vendor | What reaches them | Why |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | Your voice recordings, and the text of your material | Speech-to-text transcription, and drafting your chapters |
| ElevenLabs | Your voice recordings, and the text to be narrated | Creating your voice clone and rendering your audio |
Voice cloning and narration run on Living Forever AI’s own infrastructure, which AskTheAuthor reaches through a single server-to-server connection. AskTheAuthor never calls ElevenLabs directly.
Training. OpenAI does not train on data submitted through its API. We have turned off model-improvement sharing on our ElevenLabs account. Both are bound by data processing terms that restrict them to providing the service to us.
Saying no, and changing your mind
You can decline. Talking is how the book gets written, so declining recording means you type instead, and declining a voice clone means your book is not narrated in your voice and your twin does not speak in it.
If you have already consented you can withdraw at any time by writing to info@asktheauthor.ai. We delete your voice clone from our systems, ask ElevenLabs to delete their copy, and turn off the features that depend on it. Withdrawing does not undo processing that already happened lawfully.
The record we keep of your voice and likeness consent
Because voice and likeness are the sensitive categories, we say plainly what we keep when you consent to either. We record a separate consent entry for your voice and for your likeness, and each one holds your account, the category, the version of the wording you were shown, the date and time, and the IP address it came from.
We keep it as proof that you consented before we collected anything, which is what the Illinois, Texas, and Washington statutes above require us to be able to show. We do not use it for any other purpose. If you withdraw consent we record that too, against the same entry, so the record shows both the agreement and the withdrawal.
Retention and destruction
- Voice recordings and your voice clone are kept while your account is open, and deleted within 30 days of account closure or of your deletion request, whichever comes first.
- OpenAI separately holds data sent to its API for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, then deletes it automatically.
- Your consent records are kept for 3 years after account deletion as proof that you consented, then destroyed.
We will not sell, lease, or trade your voice or your likeness, and we will not disclose either to anyone beyond the vendors named above unless you give written consent or the law requires it.
3. How we use your information
- Build what you bought. Transcribe your talks, draft and edit your chapters, generate covers, clone your voice, render your audio, build your twin, and publish your author page.
- Run your account. Sign you in, take payment through Stripe, keep billing records, and send you account and service email.
- Keep the service working. Monitor performance, fix bugs, and improve the product. We do not train any AI model on your recordings, your manuscript, your photograph, or your voice. Improving means improving the product, not learning from your material.
- Understand our marketing. Use the campaign data in Section 1 to see which channels bring authors in.
- Meet legal obligations. Respond to lawful process and enforce our Terms.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent or trade it for anyone else’s marketing.
4. Who processes your data
| Vendor | What reaches them | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Everything | Database, sign-in, file storage, and server functions |
| Vercel | Requests to the site | Hosting and request logs |
| OpenAI | Voice recordings, your text, cover prompts | Transcription, chapter drafting, cover generation |
| ElevenLabs | Voice recordings and narration text | Voice cloning and audio rendering |
| Stripe | Payment details | Processing payments. Card data never reaches our servers |
| Postmark | Your email address and message content | Sending account and service email |
| ZeroBounce | Your email address at signup | Checking deliverability only |
| Meta | At account creation only, and not on every signup: your email address as an irreversible hash, your Facebook click and browser identifiers, your IP address and browser string, and the page you signed up from | Measuring which of our ads brought you here |
| Tavus | Your live microphone during a demo conversation, and the twin’s replies. Our demo starts with the camera off, so no video of you is sent | Running the twin conversation in our public demo |
| Daily | The live audio stream while a demo call is connected | Carrying the connection for a demo conversation |
| Cloudflare | IP address and browser characteristics before a demo starts | Confirming you are a person, not a bot |
Every vendor above:
- Receives only what it needs for its own function.
- Is bound by a data processing agreement or equivalent terms restricting use to providing the service to us.
- May not sell or share your data for unrelated purposes.
- Receives a deletion request from us within 30 days of your account closing.
Honestly stated:we send deletion requests and follow up on them, but we cannot independently verify that a vendor has purged every copy from every backup. Our agreements require them to. If a vendor’s practice stops meeting our standard we will update this page and tell affected authors.
How your twin answers
Your Author Twin answers from your book and the material you gave us. It is not drawing on general internet data or on any other author’s content.
5. When we share your information
- Service providers. The vendors in Section 4, to run the service.
- Your readers. Once you publish, your page, your bio, your photograph, your book, your audiobook, and your twin are public by your choice.
- Legal requirements. If required by law, subpoena, court order, or valid legal process, or where we believe in good faith it is necessary to protect people or rights.
- Business transfers. If Living Forever AI is merged, acquired, or sells assets, your information may transfer as part of that. We will tell you.
6. Where your files are stored
Your account data, transcripts, drafts, and records live in Supabase, a managed PostgreSQL platform running on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the United States.
Files are stored in two different ways, and the difference matters:
- Private. Your uploads, your talk recordings, your generated chapters, covers, audio, and any Kindle or PDF export. These are reachable only through a signed, expiring link issued to you.
- Publicly addressable. Your author photograph is stored in a public bucket. Anyone who has the direct URL can open it, whether or not your page is published. Please do not upload a photo you would not want reachable that way.
Security
- Encryption in transit on every connection (HTTPS/TLS)
- Encryption at rest at the database level
- Row-level security, so an account reaches only its own data
- Access limited to authorized team members and the vendors above
No system is completely secure. We take reasonable measures, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. If you are a reader
Everything above is about authors. Readers generate data too, and this section is about you: what happens when you buy a book, ask a twin a question, or try our public demo. Buying requires a reader account. Browsing an author’s page, hearing their free sample, and trying our demo do not.
When you buy
Your purchase runs through Stripe, which handles your card details directly. We never receive or store your full card number, security code, or bank details. We keep your email address, what you bought, when, and the amount, so we can give you what you paid for, support it, pay the author their share, and meet tax record requirements.
When you talk to a twin
We keep your questions and the twin’s answers. That is how the conversation stays coherent while you are in it, how we make sure you get the time you paid for, and how we find out when a twin is answering badly. Typed questions and spoken questions are both recorded; a spoken question is transcribed by OpenAIthe same way an author’s talk is.
The author cannot read your questions. They are stored so the conversation works and so we can tell when a twin is answering badly, and access to them is closed off at the database. The author does not see your payment details either. If we ever offer authors a summary of what readers ask, it will be anonymous and we will say so here first.
Video conversation with an author’s twin is not available yet. Nothing in the reader experience uses your camera today. When it is available we will describe here what it sends and what we keep, before you can buy it.
Please do not send a twin payment details, passwords, or health or financial information. It is a recorded conversation, not a private channel to the author.
The public demo
Anyone can start a live video conversation with our demo twin from our marketing pages without an account or a purchase.
- Your microphone. The demo starts with your camera off and does not turn it on. While the call is running your live audio is streamed to Tavus, which runs the conversation, and carried by Daily, which provides the connection. This happens only while you are in a demo call, and only after you allow your browser to share your microphone.
- Bot protection. Before a demo starts we use Cloudflare Turnstile to check you are a person. It reads limited technical signals such as your IP address and browser type. We do not use those for advertising. See Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy policy.
- What we keep. We record that a demo happened and how it went, so we can tell whether the demo is working. We do not retain your microphone stream, and there is no camera stream to retain.
Tavus is SOC 2 Type II certified, operates on United States infrastructure, and states in its published model card that it does not train models on customer content and does not retain conversation recordings on its platform.
8. How long we keep things
| What | Kept for | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Account profile | While your account is open | Deleted within 30 days of closure |
| Talk recordings and transcripts | Until you ask, or 30 days after closure, whichever is first | Deleted. OpenAI copies auto-delete within 30 days of receipt |
| Uploads, drafts, covers, audio, exports | While your account is open | Deleted within 30 days of closure |
| Voice clone at ElevenLabs | While your account is open | Deletion requested within 30 days of closure |
| Author photograph | While your account is open | Deleted within 30 days of closure |
| Consent records, including the IP address (Section 1) | Account lifetime plus 3 years | Kept as proof of consent, then destroyed |
| Payment and billing records | Account lifetime plus 7 years | Kept for tax records, then destroyed |
| Campaign and technical data | 1 year | Deleted regardless of account status |
| Reader purchases and entitlements | While the purchase is live, then 7 years as a billing record | Kept for tax records, then destroyed |
| Reader questions and twin conversations | 1 year from the conversation | Deleted. Video and audio streams are never retained |
What starts the clock. For an author, it is closing your account. Cancelling hosting is a different thing: it takes your page offline at the end of the year you paid for, and your content stays where it is so that restarting hosting brings the page back. Nothing in the table above is deleted by a hosting cancellation on its own.
For a reader, the clock runs from the purchase or the conversation, as the table says.
9. Your rights
- Access. Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Correction. Ask us to fix anything inaccurate.
- Deletion. Ask us to close your account and delete your data. This is permanent and takes your book, your audiobook, your page, and your twin with it.
- Withdraw voice and likeness consent. See Section 2.
- Portability. Ask for your data in a common electronic format.
- Email preferences. Opt out of non-essential email at any time.
If you live in California
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act you also have the right to know what we collect and disclose, to delete it, to correct it, to limit our use of sensitive personal information, and not to be treated differently for exercising any of these. Your voice, your likeness, and your credentials are treated as sensitive personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in that law.
How to exercise any of this
Write to info@asktheauthor.ai. We respond within 30 days, and we tell you if we need longer and why. We may verify who you are first, to protect your account. You do not need an account to make a request.
10. Children
AskTheAuthor is for adults. Authors and readers both have to be 18 or over, and the Services are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
This matters more here than on an ordinary website. Talking to a twin can involve a microphone and a camera, and under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act an audio or video recording containing a child’s voice or image is itself personal information. That is a reason we do not offer the Services to children rather than a technicality.
If you believe someone under 13 has used the Services or given us personal information, write to info@asktheauthor.ai and we will delete what we hold.
11. If you are outside the United States
The Services are offered in the United States and all data is stored and processed here. If you use them from elsewhere, you consent to that transfer. United States data protection law may differ from the law where you live. As we expand we will update this page and put the appropriate transfer protections in place.
12. Changes to this Agreement
We may update this Agreement. Routine updates get a new effective date here and an email to you.
For material changes, particularly to how we handle your voice or your likeness, we give prominent notice and ask for your active consent before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the Services is not by itself acceptance of a material change to voice or likeness handling.
13. Governing law
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to conflict of law principles. If you are in a state with a biometric privacy law, including Illinois, Texas, or Washington, that law applies to your voice and likeness data regardless of this section.
